One of the earliest projects of Puentes de Dios targeted a struggling congregation in Chiapas, Mexico's most impoverished state. The state may be familiar to you because of the Zapatista Revolucion of several years ago. In the mountain town of Chenalho, a small group of believers had formed the Good Smaritan Baptist Church. Their little group of about a dozen people met in a blue and white wooden shack which had been a shed on a landowner's property. The believers owned a piece of land nearby, but could not afford to build a house on it.
