From the Pastor: 2010-July 25

Last Sunday evening’s worship with the Alliance Choir and Orchestra from São Paulo, Brazil was an incredible time of worship! What a blessing to our hearts as God refreshed us on a hot Sunday evening with the cool breeze of His Spirit.

The choir and orchestra came to us from the Liberdade Baptist Church, one of the largest in the great city of Sao Paulo. On their way to the Baptist World Alliance Congress in Honolulu, they spent a week blessing Texas Baptist churches to celebrate their church’s centennial. They came to Texas to express their gratitude to Texas Baptists, such as the Bagby family from Corsicana, who were some of the first Baptist Christian witnesses in Brazil. They will be featured during the BWA Congress, as well.

The Baptist World Alliance is comprised of 214 Baptist unions and conventions from across the globe. Founded in 1905 by such Baptist leaders as George W. Truett (who preached at FBC Plano in 1897), the BWA provides opportunities for fellowship, study, collaboration, meeting human needs, and promoting evangelism and religious liberty as Baptist Christians. We are proud to participate in the BWA as a Global Impact Church. Our financial support for this wonderful enterprise comes through a portion of our Cooperative Program giving, as well as your designations during the annual Missions Offering. I am honored to serve as a member of the BWA’s governing body, the General Council, which meets every summer in a different part of the world so that all can participate in furthering the cause of Christ. I am eternally grateful to those in our congregation who have provided designated funds to enable Dedi and me to travel to those gatherings. I covet your prayers as I begin a five year term of service as the chair of the Human Resources Committee of the Baptist World Alliance.

I’m proud to be your pastor,

Jerry
