From the Pastor: 2010-September 5

“You can’t have too many friends!” That, my friend, is what is known as a “Carlisle-ism.” Recently, the term “Carlisle-ism” was explained to me by a church member (who has begun a collection) as “one of those things you say all the time without realizing it . . . every time I hear one I think of you.” Her list of “Carlisle-isms” was a little overwhelming, I must admit. I’ve got to work in some new schtick!

“You can’t have too many friends!” I’m proud to introduce my friend, Bailey Stone, to you as our pulpit guest this weekend. Over the years, Dr. Stone has worshipped in several places I have served as pastor—just showing up unannounced to meet with God and His people in worship. Each time I have spotted him in the congregation, I know he is praying for me and pulling for me. His encouragement has been very meaningful. Bailey and Joyce (who is a very special lady!) live in the area and have three fine sons and four extra-fine grandchildren. Dr. Stone has served as pastor of First Baptist Church of McKinney, First Baptist Church of Bryan, and First Baptist Church of Odessa. For a decade, he led Texas Baptists in sharing Jesus as Director of Evangelism for the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

I’m grateful that Bailey Stone will open God’s Word to say, “Thus saith the Lord, First Baptist Plano!” Pray for him; pull for him; encourage him.

Could you handle a new friend? It is often through friendships that God draws people into a relationship (friendship?) with Himself. You can’t have too many friends!

I’m proud to be your pastor,

Jerry
