From the Pastor: 2011-January 9

Thank you for your assistance last Sunday morning as we “marked” every pew Bible with a “simplified user’s guide.”  Many have asked for the specific “path” we marked.  You’ll find complete instructions on our website; you can also review the explanatory sermon from that site, as well!  Here are the passages of Scripture we underlined:

John 20:30-31

John 3:16

Romans 3:23

Romans 6:23

Romans 5:8

Romans 10:9-10, 13

1 John 5:11-13

We concluded with this question:  Will you turn to Jesus?

Consider this paragraph from our church’s confession of faith:

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to man.  It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction.  It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter.  It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried.  The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

How do we interpret the Bible in light of Jesus Christ?  I’m glad you asked!  Tonight begins a five-month series of Sunday evening presentations designed to develop your skills as an interpreter of God’s Word.  Let’s get started at 6 pm in the Great Hall!

May God add His richest blessing to the reading, hearing, understanding—and the doing of His Word.
