Wasn’t last Sunday a wonderful day for the family of faith called First Baptist Church of Plano? Those who assisted in reading the Scripture in various languages were certainly used by God to touch our hearts. Those who professed their faith in Christ through believer’s baptism encouraged us by their humility and obedience.
Sunday evening’s Church Business Meeting was a crucial time as we considered the proposed bylaw revisions. Our existing bylaws required a quorum of one hundred members to approve the revisions . . . my ice cream enticement bordered on bribery by all accounts. As I walked into the Great Hall following the meeting of the Deacon Council, I was told that our counters had stopped when they reached 187 church members in attendance! Thank you for taking the need to do things “decently and in order” seriously.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to the members of the Bylaws Revision Committee for their dedication to this task. It was March, 2008, when you elected Jerry Allen (chair), Randall Cooper, Larry Guinn, Beth Neill, and Fred Neyland to serve you in this role. Their thoughtful, thorough, transparent, and responsive spirit inspired our trust and produced governing documents that will benefit our church for years ahead. Although they will continue to function as a committee through the final vote on the church Constitution next month, I know you will want to express your appreciation to them personally, as well.
So many good things are just ahead: Cornerstone Student Choir will lead us in worship next Sunday morning, serve us supper next Sunday afternoon, and then share their end-of-year concert next Sunday evening. Stick around for the Dessert Auction to support their mission to Tulsa! Tickets for the spaghetti dinner are available from students, as well as in the church office.
Beginning June 13, Dr. Bob “Wildfire” Evans will lead our church in a study of "The Minor Prophets” on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. I can assure you God will speak to your heart through Dr. Bob’s heart as we open His Word together.
I’m proud to be your pastor,
Jerry
