Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Plano since August 1, 2002, Jerry and his wife, Dedi, have three children: Elyse, Collin, and Caleb. Prior to being called to Plano, Jerry pastored First Baptist Church of Temple, Texas, and the Valley Ranch Baptist Church of Coppell, Texas. He previously served on the staffs of the Tallowood Baptist Church of Houston and the Plymouth Park Baptist Church of Irving, as well as churches in Alabama and Missouri.
Dr. Carlisle holds degrees from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri (B.A., Religion), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth (M.Div., D.Min.), and Dallas Baptist University (D.D.). He has been designated Honorary Alumnus of George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Jerry often teaches adjunctively in the College of Christian Faith of Dallas Baptist University, as well as the Gary Cook Graduate School of Leadership.
Having served and chaired numerous boards and committees on a variety of levels of Baptist life, Jerry currently serves as President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is a trustee of Baylor Regional Medical Center of Plano, Dallas Baptist University and Mission to Unreached Peoples. He is also a General Council member of the Baptist World Alliance, a Global Impact Pastor, and serves as chairman of the BWA's Human Resource Committee. Elected to the BWA's Executive Committee, Jerry is also a member of the Budget and Finance Committee and the Special Commission for Intra-Baptist Relations.
Jerry enjoys golf, running, reading and traveling with Dedi.
