UPDATE: First Baptist Plano Covid-19 Protocols

Beginning Sunday, April 11 – the Sunday following Easter - First Baptist Plano will implement a modified COVID-19 safety plan and is kindly requesting church members observe these new protocols.

The balcony of the sanctuary will be designated as a mask optional area; the floor of the sanctuary will be seating for those wearing masks. Social distancing with 6 feet separation from others outside of immediate family members will remain in place. Additionally, please continue to wear masks when entering and exiting the building, moving from one area of the church to another, and mingling in common areas.

These new protocols are subject to change; the ministerial staff will continue to evaluate and communicate any updates and changes.

Church Reopening: Church Office

The church office will be open to the public beginning Monday, August 17.
Hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
If you need to meet with a minister or staff member after hours, please contact the church office at 972-424-8551 or at fbc@fbcplano.org to schedule an appointment.
Masks will be worn by all visitors to the building. Additional safety instructions are being developed and will be posted upon building entry.
Staff will continue to practice social distancing, wear masks when social distancing is not possible, and when visitors approach.

Church Reopening: Sunday Bible Study: Students

Beginning this Sunday, August 16, we have the opportunity to return for in-person Sunday Bible Study.
Bible Study will be in The Foundry. We are planning for 3 classes:
- 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Class - led by Rick Sullins and Melinda Moore
- 9th & 10th Grade Class - led by Art Spencer, Shannon Holt, and Kary Holt
- 11th & 12th Grade Class - led by Lisa Gorman, Jenn Hoskins, and Ken Hoskins
For in-person Sunday Bible Study, we will practice SOCIAL DISTANCING, and wearing a MASK will be required.
For those who are unable or uncomfortable attending in-person Sunday Bible Study, you may attend class via Zoom.

Church Reopening: Sunday Bible Study: Children & ETC

Beginning this Sunday, August 16, we will be offering our Sunday Bible Study classes for birth – 5^th grade both in-person and online. Both online and in-person classes will receive the same Bible lessons each week from our Gospel Project curriculum.
Extended Teaching Care (ETC) for children under 5 years of age will be available during both worship services.
Services and Class Times:
- 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
  - ETC for Classic Gathering Service
  - Only the Main Sanctuary doors will be opened
- 10:05 a.m. - 11:05 a.m.
  - In-Person Sunday Bible Study
  - First Floor of the Children’s Building
- 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
  - ETC for Gathering Service
  - Use the Berry Building doors to enter and exit the building
- 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  - Online Sunday Bible Study for 3^rd Grade – 5^th Grade/AWANA TNT
- 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  - Online Sunday Bible Study for Kinder-2^nd Grade/AWANA Sparks
- 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  - Online Sunday Bible Study for Preschool/AWANA Cubbies & Puggles

Please read below to see how we are making children’s ministry available to your family in two different formats so you can decide which is best for your family during this time.

Online Preschool & Elementary Classes:

At this time, nothing will change for our families who wish to continue participating in our online Bible Study classes.
Online Bible Study will continue to meet in the late afternoons via our “Zoom Rooms” through Labor Day weekend. On September 13, our online Bible Study classes will move to 10:05 a.m. (This is the day our AWANA ministry resumes and will take that late afternoon timeslot).

In-Person PRESCHOOL Classes:

Families will stop first at our security check-in computer kiosks; however, a volunteer will operate the computer for you in order to limit the number of people touching the computers.
Preschoolers and their teachers will attend class in disinfected rooms and will not switch rooms during their class time, to limit cross-exposures.
Preschoolers do not need to wear masks.
All children will wash their hands upon entering their classroom and prior to dismissal.
Your child’s teacher might be different than who they would normally have on Sunday morning. This is because many of our teachers are still leading our online classes and some are not able to return just yet due to being at-risk during the current pandemic. Our teachers miss their students very much and frequently tell me how much they look forward to being able to come back and see everyone again!

In-Person ELEMENTARY Classes:

Elementary children will have class in a disinfected room outfitted for socially-distanced learning activities where they will have their own set of supplies to use for the morning.
At this time, we must ask all elementary-age children to wear a mask when entering and exiting their classrooms. We strongly suggest children wear their mask during the class; however, we understand some of our children struggle with sensory or other issues that may make this extremely difficult. For this reason, children will not be required to wear masks when they get to their learning spot for the morning.
All children will wash their hands upon entering their classroom and prior to dismissal.

Church Reopening: Sunday Bible Study: Adults

Sunday Bible Study classes may choose to meet on campus as early as this Sunday, August 16. Sunday Bible Study leaders will contact class members regarding a decision to begin meeting on campus. Some classes will continue to meet via Zoom, some might continue emailing the Bible study lesson, some might choose to make follow-up phone calls, etc., while other classes might choose to meet in person and utilize Zoom to connect the entire group. Each class will decide what the best decision is for them.
Sunday Bible Study classrooms will be sanitized by custodians prior to class meetings. Restrooms will be sanitized after each use.
Sunday Bible Study class members must practice social distancing (6 feet apart) and will be required to wear masks (except teachers) until after exiting the building. Signage on the doors will serve as reminders.
Tommy Shumate or Kristie Osborne will need to know which classes will be meeting on-site, and an approximate number of people who will be attending, in order to provide proper room arrangements for set up and sanitizing.

Church Reopening: Worship Services

This Sunday, August 16, our church building will be open for worship. For those who feel comfortable leaving their home and meeting in the church building, we will meet and worship in the Sanctuary and/or Great Hall. For those who need or prefer to stay at home and worship, and would not feel safe, or would feel compromised…please do not attend. The services will be streamed online, just as if you were in the church building.
We are working diligently to provide a safe environment for our church family by taking measures to ensure an additional level of sanitation, as well as implementing several new procedures for in-person worship. Our goal is to provide an even safer environment than businesses are providing.
Signs will be posted at our worship entrances that state we are requiring masks to be worn when entering and exiting the building. For those who do not have masks, we will provide masks. After people are escorted to their seats, those who choose to remove their masks may do so.
Hand sanitizer will continue to be available inside the entrances.
Both worship areas and the most common touchpoints (doors, light switches, countertops, etc.) will be wiped down and sanitized thoroughly by custodians prior to each use. A sanitizing wand will be used in occupied spaces and connecting corridors prior to use.
Only one entrance will be open for each service: the main sanctuary door will open at 8:00 a.m. for the Traditional Service at 9:00 a.m. The Great Hall (Berry Building doors) will open at 10:30 a.m. for the Contemporary Service at 11:15 a.m.
The Task Team, wearing masks and gloves, will open doors so that no one will need to touch a door handle.
The Task Team will escort and seat people, individuals, or family groups, at least six feet apart.
Following worship, people must wear their masks when exiting. To maintain social distancing, The Task Team will assist people row by row in exiting. For those attending worship and who will be remaining for Sunday Bible Study, they will remain seated until all others have exited. Afterward, they will head to their Sunday Bible Study classes, maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.
Offering baskets will be at the entrance/exit of the Sanctuary and Great Hall, so that offering plates do not need to be passed.
Restrooms will be sanitized and available for each worship service. Custodial staff will be onsite to sanitize after each use. The restrooms at the back of the sanctuary will be open for the 9:00 a.m. service. Restrooms on the west side of the Great Hall will be open for the 11:15 a.m. service.
Hand sanitizer will be available throughout our facilities and restrooms.
Extended Teaching Care (ETC) for children under 5 years of age will be available during both worship services.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) UPDATE: Return to Online Only Worship

Dear Church Family,

In the last couple of weeks, we have seen a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Texas. The staff at First Baptist Plano wants to do our part to help control the spread of the virus and protect our church family. For these reasons, we have made the difficult decision to return to online worship only. We are not making this decision out of fear, instead from a desire to protect our people and those who are most at risk. We believe returning to online worship only for now is the best and safest option for our church family and community.

We will continue to monitor the situation and hope to return to in-person worship soon.

UPDATE: Reopening the Church

Dear Church Family,

While we have opened the church building on Sunday mornings for in-person worship to those who feel comfortable, we have decided that the church office will remain closed to the public at this time. This allows us to focus on keeping the worship rooms sanitized and safe for Sunday morning worshipers. The plan, at this time, is to reopen to the public on Monday, August 3.

Church staff continue to meet the needs of the congregation by working remotely, coming to the office when necessary and scheduling appointments with individuals at the church. If you are in need of assistance, prayer or would like to meet in person, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of the ministers. (Contact information listed below.) Please keep us informed of needs within the congregation as they arise; we desire to stay connected with and respond quickly to our church family.

COVID-19 Protocols for Worship in the Church Building

This Sunday, May 31, for those who feel comfortable leaving their home and meeting in the church building, we will meet and worship in the Sanctuary and/or Great Hall. For those who need or prefer to stay at home and worship, the services will be streamed online, just as if you were in the church building.

Congregants are strongly encouraged to wear masks. Church staff will wear masks when not on the platform.
Both worship rooms and the most common touchpoints (doors, light switches, countertops, etc.) will be wiped down and sanitized thoroughly prior to each use.
There will only be one entrance open for each service: the main sanctuary door will open at 8:00 a.m. for the Traditional Service at 9:00 a.m.; the Great Hall (Berry Building doors) will open at 10:30 a.m. for the Contemporary Service at 11:15 a.m.
Greeters will open doors so that no one will need to touch a door handle. Greeters will wear masks and gloves.
Ushers will escort congregants to their seats to maintain social distancing. Congregants will be seated in family groups at least six feet away from other groups. Ushers will wear masks and gloves.
When the service is over please remain seated, ushers will dismiss people row by row in order to maintain social distance.
