Last week we introduced the purpose, composition and future plans of the Properties and Facilities Strategic Planning Team. This information along with future updates can be found online at www.fbcplano.org/strategicplanning.

This week attention will be focused on the need for strategic planning at this time. When the team began meeting in November of 2016, they quickly identified several key needs for our current facility.

They are as follows:

  1. Updated children’s areas with vision that far exceeds paint and carpet.
  2. Updated and specifically designed student areas.
  3. A central meeting area that can connect the church in a seamless and dynamic way, that allows easy access to the entire facility.
  4. Better accessibility to the building from the parking lot, and better accessibility once inside the building for those who have difficulty with mobility, and for parents of young children.
  5. Lower maintenance costs to re-direct dollars to ministry. Our facility currently requires around $200,000 of maintenance costs over and above the cost of newer structures, with costs increasing annually.
  6. It is vitally important to attract more visitors. This issue is not a facilities issue alone but there is a strong sense that our current facility does not help us in this regard.

This is only a summary of the most pressing needs identified by the team. Next week we will take a deeper look into trends that have caused church leadership to take a thoughtful look at the current property and facility.
